Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe, with its fine cities, stunning architecture and glorious countryside. Don't be put off by the high accommodation prices in the big cities - it is possible to enjoy a holiday in Italy on a budget.
As with many locations, you'll find that it is cheapest to visit Italy outside of the peak summer months. This is actually wise for other reasons too - the Italian cities tend to be swelteringly hot during the months of July and August.

County town of Campania and the province of Naples, it is the third largest populated city in Italy and the largest city in the south of Italy. The city looks out over the Gulf of Naples and stretches for 8 kilometres between the lands of Campi Flegrei, the Sant'Elmo hills and Capodimonte on one side and the plains leading to Vesuvius on the other. Naples, founded in the 7th century, was an important location during the Greek-Roman era; becoming a Byzantine Duchy, a Norman-Swabian centre and finally a Angevin and Bourbon capital. The historic city centre is divided into six zones: Via Toledo with Castel Nuovo, Spaccanapoli, the Decumano Massimo, Capodimonte, i Vergini, Vomero, Castel dell'Ovo and Via Chiaia.

Italy is a country filled with colourful contrasts, from the beauty of Venice to the sheer bustle of Rome. In northern Italy, the area around Lake Garda also has plenty to offer.
Foreign travellers have been visiting Italy for decades, drawn by the scenery, culture and history that are so intrinsic to Italian life. While Hemmingway took delight in his stays in Venice, many others looked further north - to the Italian lakes.
Lake Garda, a favoured destination for Franz Kafka, Thomas Mann and James Joyce, lies at the foot of the Italian Alps. Surrounded by pretty villages and towns, it's little surprise that the region around the lake draws visitors from all over Europe.
